THE CLV PROCESS
HUMAN → AI → HUMAN → SLAB
01
HUMAN GRADING
A CLV grader physically examines the card and assesses its condition against our published grading criteria.
02
AI VERIFICATION
Processed card imaging, measurements and grader observations are analysed by our AI-assisted verification system, providing an additional analytical layer.
03
HUMAN SECONDER
A second human review considers the assessment and verification findings before the final grade is approved.
04
SLAB
The approved card is labelled, encapsulated, quality checked and entered into the CLV certification system.
TECHNOLOGY SHOULD CHECK JUDGEMENT.
NOT REPLACE IT.
WHY HUMAN FIRST?
We believe physical collectables still require human judgement.
Cards contain nuances that measurements alone cannot always explain. Print characteristics, defect severity, card construction and context all matter.
That's why every CLV assessment starts with a human grader.

AI-ASSISTED VERIFICATION
THE SECOND LAYER
Once the initial assessment is complete, card-derived imaging and relevant grader observations are analysed through CLV's AI-assisted verification process.

IMAGE ANALYSIS
Processed imaging helps the system examine card characteristics.
06
MEASUREMENT
Machine-readable information can support consistent assessment of measurable characteristics.
07
CROSS-CHECKING
The AI system can compare its assessment against the human grader's findings.
08
FLAGGING
Potential inconsistencies can be surfaced for further human consideration.
THE LAST DECISION IS HUMAN.
FINAL REVIEW
Before a CLV grade is finalised, the assessment is subject to further human review.
The seconder considers the grading information and relevant verification findings before the final result is approved.
If something warrants another look, the card can be examined again before encapsulation.
HUMAN REVIEWED. EVERY TIME.
SIX AREAS. ONE FINAL ASSESSMENT.
Each area contributes to our understanding of the card's condition. Defect severity and applicable grade limits mean that the final grade is not necessarily a simple arithmetic average of the six assessments.

GRADING IS AN ASSESSMENT.
A SMALL TRANSPARENCY SECTION
CLV uses defined criteria, human graders, equipment and AI-assisted verification to pursue consistency.
Nevertheless, card grading involves evaluative judgement. A CLV grade represents our assessment of a card at the time it was graded. Another grading company, collector or later assessment may reach a different conclusion.
